Afghan carpet, also known as Afghan rug, is a distinguished and well recognized hand-made rug that originates from
Afghanistan . They intricate detailing mainly using designs from Turkmen tribes such as the Yomut,Ersari ,Saryk ,Salor , andTekke . Many dyes such as vegetable dyes are used to give the rich colors. The hand-made rugs come in many patterns and colors, but the traditional and most common example of an Afghan carpet is the octagon-shaped elephant-foot (Bukhara ) print shown in the picture. The rugs with this print are commonly red in color.Approximately 97% of the Afghan rugs has been transacted under other countries' names like
Iran andPakistan . However, Afghan businessmen or traders with the help from the government of Afghanistan are seeking ways to end this. Afghan products are beginning to regain its popularity today. Afghan businessmen in theUnited States received more than one million US dollar demands for further quality handicraft mat after all their rugs put for display were sold out. In early 2008 the Afghan carpets were put for display in another international exhibition inGermany , out of 1442 carpet producers from 80 countries across the globe Afghan carpet won the first position in the competition.
