Rosario Parrino

Rosario "Sasa" Parrino (1890-May 31, 1930) was a New York mobster who was killed in a major gangland slaying in Detroit, Michigan, in the early 1930's.

Born in New York, Parrino became a "Made man", or full member, of the Schiro crime family (the present day Bonanno crime family) in New York City. During the 1920s, Parrino moved to Detroit and joined the mafia family of boss Gaspar Milazzo. Parrino served the family as a low-level soldier and bodyguard for Milazzo

In 1931, the Detroit crime family was caught up in Castellammarese War, a major gang war between New York mobsters Salvatore Maranzano, to whom Milazzo was allied, and Joseph "Joe the Boss" Masseria. On January 16, 1931 Parrino's brother Giuseppe, a member of Maranzano's family in Brooklyn, New York, was murdered in a Manhattan restaurant.. To punish him for that refusal and his alliance with Maranzano, Masseria decided to kill Milazzo.

On May 31, 1931, Milazzo and Parrino drove to the fish market in Detroit. While they were walking around the market, two Masseria gunmen shot and killed both men.
