Janet Coats

Janet Coats (previously Janet Weaver, born May 6, 1963 in Ooltewah, Tennessee) is the executive editor of "The Tampa Tribune", a position she has held since July 12, 2004. Before working at the "Tribune", she had over a decade of print journalism experience, and was the dean of faculty of the Poynter Institute for Media Studies in St. Petersburg, Florida from November 2003 until relinquishing her duties to run the "Tribune" in July 2004.

While commuting late one evening from a residential Tampa neighborhood to Sarasota, Coats (then Weaver) was arrested for DUI.

Eight months later, Coats' divorce from Mark Weaver, to whom she had been married since 1993, was finalized.

Since April, 2007, she has been married to Rusty Coats, then general manager of TBO.com, owned by Media General with the "Tribune". Coats has three children from her previous marriage to Weaver.
