- John Allan (colonel)
John Allan (
January 3 1747 –February 7 1805 ) was an officer of the Massachusetts Militia in theAmerican Revolutionary War .He was born in
Edinburgh Castle inScotland ,cite book | title = Who Was Who in America, Historical Volume, 1607-1896 | publisher = Marquis Who's Who | date = 1967] the son of William Allan and Isabella Maxwell. He came to the Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1749, where he eventually rose to the position ofjustice of the peace and clerk of the Nova ScotiaSupreme Court . Allan also represented Cumberland township in theNova Scotia House of Assembly from 1775 to 1776. He came toMassachusetts to serve in the American Revolution in 1776, and rose to the position ofcolonel in theMassachusetts militia . Allan later took part in the negotiations to establish the boundary betweenNew Brunswick andMaine . He died in 1805.Allan's daughter Elizabeth married
