June 19 ,1977 inToronto ) is a personality onThe Score Television Network , a Canadian sportscable television network, andHardcore Sports Radio , a channel onSirius Satellite Radio .Originally an intern at The Score, Richards hosted five-minute segments called "Cabbie on the Street" from 2001-02 and again since 2005. The segments generally consist of Richards surprising sports figures with unorthodox questions all over North America. For example, at one of
National Basketball Association commissionerDavid Stern 'spress conference s, Richards asked if Stern always wins his fantasy basketball pools. In another segment, he was ejected from theToronto Raptors ' locker room after teaching the famously stoicChris Bosh a "secret handshake" that ended with Richards bear-hugging the unamused basketball player. He could be the only person to drink from the Stanley Cup (hockey) and hold the Larry O'Brien trophy (basketball) in the same week. New segments of "Cabbie on the Street" run during the 10 p.m. ET edition of "The Score Tonight " on Wednesdays. In between stints at The Score, Richards worked on
Rogers Sportsnet 's "NBA XL " and "JZone " shows. In 2006, The Score launched a weekly, 30-minute version of "Cabbie on the Street" called "Cabbie Unlimited". "Cabbie Unlimited" airs at 7:00 ET on Tuesdays.
In December 2007, the network aired the first episode of "Cabbie All-Stars", an talk show in front of a live audience. The Score has scheduled six episodes of the interview show.Jarome Iginla and Dion Phaneuf (both of the Calgary Flames) were featured in the first episode, while Vernon Wells (Toronto Blue Jays), Mats Sundin (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Chris Bosh (Toronto Raptors) were featured in the second show. Cabbie takes a relaxed approach to interviewing, often poking fun at himself to make the guest open up. He once stated that he frequently touches people during interviews because it is a disarming mechanism. He has interviewed many well-known athletes, including
Kobe Bryant ,Lebron James ,Dwyane Wade , Vernon Wells,Charles Barkley ,Derek Jeter ,David Ortiz ,Sidney Crosby ,Alexander Ovechkin ,Jarome Iginla , andMario Lemieux .He was also featured in
Talib Kweli 's 2005 music video for the song "Never Been In Love". Cabbie plays a stage manager in the video. He can also be seen as an actor in the 2000 music video "Money Jane" by Baby Blue Soundcrew. He is also a notable presence within Toronto nightlife and can be seen ordering bottle service at many Toronto clubs.External links
