Jeffrey William Pentland (born
September 8 ,1946 inHollywood, California ) was most recently the hitting coach for theSeattle Mariners . by|2008 was his 12th season as aMajor League Baseball hitting coach and third with the Mariners. He previously worked as theChicago Cubs ' hitting coach from by|1997-by|2002 and theKansas City Royals ' hitting coach from by|2003-by|2005. OnJune 9 , 2008, Pentland was dismissed as the Mariners hitting coach and replaced withLee Elia .Pentland was a member of the
Arizona State University Sun Devils 1967 National Championship baseball team along with fellow teammates including future big leaguersReggie Jackson ,Duffy Dyer andGary Gentry . In 2002, Pentland was inducted into the ASU Hall of Fame.Pentland is often credited as a major influence in the development of
