The Newman School, founded in 1991, is located in Cajica, Colombia. Its first graduating class was in 2003. It is a catholic school.
The Bilingual and private School was founded in 1991 by former Anglocolombiano School headmaster Augusto Franco Arbeláez. The school was named after Cardinal John Henry Newman, whose saying "from heart to heart we all speak heart to heart" is now part of the school's anthem. The Newman School belongs to the "UCB" ("Unión de Colegios Bilingues"). It has all grades from Pre-Kinder to Eleventh Grade. Some of the classes that are taught in American English are: Biology, Math, Geometry, Social Studies, Science and others.
It has 4 houses: Air, Water, Earth and Fire. There's an annual week mainly dedicated to win points for each house called the "Semana Cultural" in English Cultural Week. At the end one house is the winner and receives a cup. Some other important dates in the school are the English Day (That's really Newman's birthday) and Spanish day. The number of students is approximately 500. The School has 3 main buildings: The CRE, Betancourt and Newman. The CRE consists mainly of a very big library, an auditorium and a computer classroom. The Betancourt is for classrooms from Preschool to Primary and for reception and teacher rooms. The Betancourt has the classrooms for High school, the laboratories and the administrative and academic offices. There are also small building such as the cafeteria, the music room and the sports room.
