The island Herreninsel, with an area of 238 hectares, is the biggest of the three main islands of the
Chiemsee , a lake in the state ofBavaria ,Germany . Together with the islands of Fraueninsel and "Krautinsel" it forms the municipality of Chiemsee.Herrenchiemsee is inhabited by only about 300 people. The island is famous for the castle of
Herrenchiemsee built byLudwig II of Bavaria .Apart from the castle the island also consists of the Old Castle Herrenchiemsee, a former
