Wayne Connolly

Wayne Connolly is an Australian musician and producer. Starting out as a singer, songwriter and guitarist for Sydney band The Welcome Mat, Connolly also worked at Fairlight (developers of the Fairlight CMI) before becoming an engineer and producer. Originally working around the Australian power pop scene with bands such as The Flanders, Webster and Jericho City, Connolly began to work on more high profile bands such as You Am I, Silverchair, Youth Group and The Vines.

Although less active as a musician as he became busier as a producer, Wayne Connolly continues to sporadically record and perform with long-term partner Tracy Ellis under the name of Knievel. The band has released four albums since 1995, [ [http://www.knievel.com.au/disc.htm Knievel discography] ] but in a 2006 interview, Connolly said: "We're a little confused about what direction we want to go in at the moment. Our last few records have been pretty melancholy and, honestly, I'm at the point where I don't want to play sad songs live anymore. It's just too tough. I want to write more upbeat songs but I seem to have this pre-programmed mentality where I want to write downbeat songs. I just can't do it." Connolly won 2007 Aria awards for Producer of the Year and Engineer of the Year, for his work on Josh Pyke's album "Memories & Dust".
