Willie DeWit (born
June 13 ,1961 inThree Hills, Alberta ) was aCanadian boxer. DeWit fought for Canada and won the Heavyweight silver medal at the1984 Summer Olympics . DeWit and teammateShawn O'Sullivan were heavily-touted going into the Games, as both had won the World Championships. They were the men to beat in their divisions.DeWit had an uneventful pro career, and was knocked down four times in a crushing 2nd round TKO defeat to
Bert Cooper in 1987. The loss to Cooper was DeWit's only career defeat, as he retired after six consecutive wins, the last of which being a decision victory overHenry Tillman .Although DeWit had lost only once, he was still the Canadian champion and appeared to have rebounded from his loss to Cooper. Instead he chose to retire and go to law school. DeWit now (2005) lives comfortably as a criminal defence lawyer.
