Early career
Westwood started his career as trainee at Manchester United and was part of the
FA Youth Cup winning side 1995 before signing for Crewe Alexandra the same year. Two years later, he was a regular in the side that secured promotion toDivision One after beating Brentford in the play-off final atWembley Stadium . He made more than 100 appearances in three years with Crewe.Bradford City
Westwood moved to Bradford City in 1998 and helped the side secure promotion to the Premiership at the end of his first season and beat the odds to survive the next year (although his appearances were limited).
He followed manager
Paul Jewell to Sheffield Wednesday in 2000 for £150,000 making more than 100 appearances for the Owls before moving to Northampton Town in 2003, where he had an injury-hit spell (making just three appearances in the club's promotion season of 2005–06).Later career
He joined Chester City in 2006, but continued to struggle with his hamstring and did not play for the club again in a league match after going off injured against
Wycombe Wanderers in January 2007.On
