Tirol (Italian language: "Tirolo"; German: "Tirol", also "Dorf Tirol"; Latin "Tyrolum"; many of the region's Italian languages/dialects use "Tirol") is a "comune" (municipality) in the province of Bolzano-Bozen in the Italian region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, located about 70 km north of the city of Trento and about 25 km northwest of the city of Bolzano. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,361 and an area of 25.6 km².All demographics and other statistics: Italian statistical institute Istat.]

The municipality of Tirol contains the "frazione" (subdivision) St. Peter (San Pietro).

Tirol borders the following municipalities: Kuens (Caines), Algund (Lagundo), Merano (Meran), Moos in Passeier (Moso in Passiria), Partschins (Parcines), Riffian (Rifiano), and Schenna (Scena).

The name of the historical region of Tyrol, stems from the Castle of Tyrol, which is located in the village.
