Herbert Alpass

Herbert John Hampden Alpass (born August 8, 1906 in Berkeley, Gloucestershire, died March 16, 1999 in Bristol).

Herbert Alpass studied at Clifton College in Bristol and starred as a left-arm spinner in the college cricket team. He later played seven first-class matches for Gloucestershire CCC between 1926 and 1928. He took 4 wickets at a cost of 114 runs and in nine innings scored 36 runs with a high score of 18 not out.

Away from cricket, Alpass qualified as a solicitor and became chairman of Bristol Rovers Football Club in 1950. He spent 11 years as chairman, overseeing promotion to Division Two in 1953.

He died in Southmead, Bristol in March 1999 at the age of 92.
