Frederick S. Goring

Frederick Stewart Goring (February 3, 1923 – November 27, 1989) was an Ontario politician. He was born at the Goring Farm House, in the Township of Niagara in Ontario in Canada. He was the 6th generation to have lived there. The original owner of the farm was Francis Goring who arrived at Fort Niagara in August 1776, at the age of 21 years, living there during the American Revolution, and who was consequently knighted for starting one of the first schools in the Niagara area. Sometime prior to 1782, he was granted various land grants, one being the original farm. This farm was left to his son Francis Goring, who in turn left it to his son, John, followed by his son Frederick, then to his son Charlton (Chic), then finally to Frederick.

During World War II, Fred was a bomber pilot, flying a Vickers Wellington. Upon his return, he obtained his engineering degree and worked in the power plant of General Motors of St. Catharines.

He was active in local politics for many years, sitting on numerous boards, including the Niagara Parks Commission. Prior to 1970, he was the Reeve of the Niagara Township. It was during this time that the Township built the first Arena in Niagara (on-the-Lake "or" Township). When the Town of Niagara and the Township of Niagara were amalgamated, he became the First Lord Mayor of the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Frederick married Margaret Warren and they had a son Dennis and daughter Dale.
