Endogesus

Endogesus

In Christianity, endogesus is where a clergyman's doctrine is based on his own opinion rather than upon the content of the Holy Bible, i.e. where one reads the Holy Bible with one's own philosophies in mind, and interprets the Bible to mean something entirely different from what the context would suggest, in order to fit it with one's own views. The opposite of endogesus is exegesis which is to consider the cultural context of the passage as one seeks to make an intelligent interpretation.
