James J. Schmitt (born June 7 1958, Two Rivers, Wisconsin) is an American Republican politician, He is a graduate of Roncalli High School in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

On April 1, 2003 he was elected as the 41st mayor of Green Bay, Wisconsin [http://www.wiscities.org/newsletter57.htm] , succeeding Paul Jadin who had not sought re-election.

Family

The fourth of ten children born to James Schmitt and Mary Gleichner Schmitt in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, Jim Schmitt married Dona Degenhardt on May 26 1990. They have three daughters: Anna, Greta, and Laura; another daughter, Eva, died as an infant in 2002.hg
