- Western Tengu Swordplay
Western Tengu Swordplay is a relatively new martial art form created in America by a young martial artist named Alex Glass. Utilizing two long, curved swords it stems many of its motions from the Japanese art of
kendo .The art requires exceptional balance because of the strange patterns created using the blade. These patterns are meant to confuse a target, as well as use momentum to add power to strikes and blocks, turning even the slightest block into a powerful counter-attack.The foot patterns of WTS (western tengu swordplay) almost seem bland compared to the motions of the sword. The feet are kept at a right angle to each other to ensure balance is kept during motion, many of the foot movements being based on the martial art of
Hung Gar . It is said that trying to knock over someone using this style is like trying to knock over a mountain.Swords which may be used include:
katana s,tulwar s,scimitar s andsabre s.Most other curved swords are usable. The only limitation is that the swords must be full length, and have only one edge. Two edges will not hurt your style but since the art only utilises one edge of the blade it is more practical to use a single edged sword.
