- Ragabonds
Ragabonds is a term for a group of people, mainly based in the UK, who have left university and their RAG and moved on to pastures new.
They are mainly people who, during their
student years, were active in the Rag community, and wish to carry on their voluntary work during their free time. As a group they have so far raised nearly £250,000.Because they are no longer at university, they no longer affiliate themselves with the Rags they used to belong to as (according to their website): "we are all big boys and girls now and wish to make a difference as a new clan of fundraisers".
Origins
The term Ragabonds is a portmanteau of the word rag and the word vagabonds, suggesting that they are people who travel around whilst enjoying the charitable aspect of their work.
Fundraising
Charity Events
Ragabonds are frequently seen at major UK charities' student fundraising events, such as those described in the rag fundraising calendar. The vast majority of the members' fundraising activity is in street collections for UK charities.
Rag Weeks
Although many university rags around the world do arrange an annual rag week, the Ragabonds (possibly because of their spread-out location) do not do this. It is not unusual, though, for some members to take part in university rag weeks if, say, they are located nearby.
