USS San Diego

Four ships of the United States Navy have been named USS "San Diego", after the city of San Diego, California.

* The first "San Diego" was originally the armored cruiser USS|California|ACR-6|3.
* The second, USS|San Diego|CL-53|3, was a light cruiser commissioned in 1942 in service throughout the Pacific War, and decommissioned 1946.
* The third, USS|San Diego|AFS-6|3, was a combat stores ship in service from 1969 to 1997.
* The fourth, USS|San Diego|LPD-22|3, will be a "San Antonio"-class amphibious transport dock, scheduled for commissioning in 2009.
