Mike Maxfield (born 23 February 1944, Manchester, England) is an English songwriter and guitarist, who came to fame as a member of The Dakotas. He penned "Cruel Sea", a song which was first recorded by The Ventures (see The Ventures discography). The Dakotas would later record an instrumental version of the track, and was one of the group's biggest hits.[1]
