High Plains Uranium

High Plains Uranium

High Plains Uranium, Inc. is a uranium company based in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and was founded in April 2004. It closed its initial public offering in December 2005 and is currently traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange. High Plains acquired and controls mineral rights of more than 45,000 acres (180 km²) of uranium properties in Wyoming and more than 6,000 acres (24 km²) in Texas.

2005 to present

In 2005 the company raised $11.7 million and acquired interests in the Allemand-Ross Project in Wyoming and the Swinney Switch Project in Texas among others.

High Plains intends to employ in-situ leach mining technology to produce its uranium. In-situ mining, or “solution mining,” recovers uranium from underground bodies without disrupting the character of the rock strata or land surface. The mining technique is designed to make other land uses, such as agriculture, also possible.

The company was acquired by Energy Metals Corporation effective January 12, 2007, and delisted from the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Major projects

Allemand-Ross Project: The project is centered at the Powder River Basin of Wyoming. The area was previously explored by Conoco in the 1970’s and 1980’s.

High Plains announced the completion of a test program at the site in January 2006. The program provided the company with information of the area’s uranium content and amenability to mining by in-situ leaching.

Swinney Switch Project: The project is spread between Live Oak County and Bee County, Texas. The area was explored by Texas Oil and Gas in the late 1970’s. About 1.2 million pounds of in-situ uranium is present at the site.
