German submarine U-98 (1940)

Unterseeboot 98 or U-98 was a Nazi German U-Boat that operated from March of 1941 until November of 1942. It was first launched on August 31st, 1940, operating out of St. Nazaire with a crew of 46 under the initial command of Robert Gysae. In March of 1942 command was transferred to Wilhelm Schultz. Its final commander was Kurt Eichmann, who took over in October, 1942. [http://ubootwaffe.net/ops/boat.cgi?boat=98]

*On 27th March, 1941: Sank the British 6,695 ton "Koranton", sailing with convoy SC-25
*On 4th April, 1941: Sank the Norwegian 2,467 ton "Helle", a member of convoy SC-26
*On 4th April, 1941: Sank the British 5,122 ton "Wellcombe", part of convoy SC-26
*On 9th April, 1941: Sank the Dutch 1,304 ton "Prins Willem II", from convoy HX-117

econd patrol

*On 13th May, 1941: Sank the British 10,549 ton "HMS Salopian", sailing with convoy SC-30
*On 20th May, 1941: Sank the British 5,356 ton "Rothermere", a member of convoy HX-126
*On 21st May, 1941: Sank the British 7,402 ton "Marconi", part of convoy OB-322

Third patrol

*On 9th July, 1941: Sank the British 4,897 ton "Inverness", from convoy OB-341
*On 9th July, 1941: Sank the British 5,945 ton "'Designer", sailing with convoy OB-341

Fourth patrol

*On 16th September, 1941: Sank the British 4,392 ton "Jedmoor", a member of convoy SC-42

Fifth patrol

*Active patrol lasted from October 29th, 1941, to November 29th, 1941, with no result

ixth patrol

*On 15th February, 1942: Sank the British 5,298 ton "Biela", part of convoy ON-62

eventh patrol

*Active patrol lasted from March 31st, 1942, to June 6th, 1942, with no result

Eighth patrol

*U-98 laid mines between the dates of July 17th, 1942, and September 16th, 1942. One ship, the American 185 ton "USS Bold" was heavily damaged by one of their mines on August 10th, 1942

Ninth and final patrol

*On October 22nd, 1942, departed St. Nazaire on active patrol, and was sank by allied forces on November 15th, 1942, with all hands lost
