Benjamin Dutton, Jr.

Benjamin Dutton, Jr., (1883-04-03 - 1937-11-30) was a United States Navy Captain, expert navigator and author.

Dutton was born in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, graduated from the Naval Academy in 1905. His long and distinguished career included command of USS "Nokomis" (PY-6) and USS "Wyoming" (BB-32); various staff and school assignments; and attaché duty in Germany in 1935. Known for his expert work in navigation, he was the author of Special:Booksources/6000359217

, first published in 1926. Captain Dutton died at South Gate, California, while in command of USS "Portland" (CA-33).

Namesakes

Two ships of the US Navy have been named USS Dutton in his honor.
