Lower Rivington Reservoir is at the end of the Rivington chain of reservoirs, with Upper Rivington Reservoir to the north, and Rivington Water Treatment Works to the south. It is the last reservoir before the system connects into the Thirlmere Aqueduct.

On the banks of the reservoir is the replica of the ruined Liverpool Castle, and to the south west is the Headless Cross at Grimeford Village. There are also old buildings under this reservoir, such as a church tower, which can be seen if the reservoir is low on water. This is also home to a huge pike fish, nick named Big Bertha, due to her size and weight. No-one has been able to catch her.
