Augusto Gansser-Biaggi (born
1910 inMilan ) is a Swissgeologist who specialised in thegeology of the Himalayas .His geological researches brough him around the world: Greenland (1934), Himalaya (1936), Colombia (1937-1945), Isla Trinidad (1947-1950), Persia (1951-1958). From 1958 onward he was professor of Geology at the University and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, from where he carried out several researches in the Himalayas (Nepal, India and Bhutan). In 1980 he was invited by Deng Xiao Ping to Tibet.Awards:
* Patrons Medal of theRoyal Geographical Society in London for the book: “The Geology of the Himalayas“
*Wollaston Medal (the highest award granted by theGeological Society of London ).
*Prix Gaudry (the highest award granted by the French Geologcal Society)
*Steinmann Medal of the Geological Society of West Germany
*King Albert Medal of Merit for his mountain research
* In 1983 theUniversity of Peshawar in Pakistan gave him the title of "Baba Himalaya" (Father of the Himalayas).
