The Grand Château White House was built in 2004 and endorses an early Vogue architectural design. It is one of the largest French dwellings in Hong Kong the interior currently accompanies:
• 7 Large Spacious Bedroom Suites (including a guest suite) • Each has its own on-suite including a spa bath and shower.• Formal Dining Room• Family Room• Normal Dining Room• Media Room equipped with Cinema technology• 2 Maids Quarters• 2 Large Kitchens • Small Library• Billiards Room• Music Room
In the French tradition the Château's interior rooms (excluding Kitchen, Maids Quarters and Media Room and Library) all include fireplaces. The Grand Château White House was the first European dwelling to utilise German reclining architecture that is to say that the Château's three levels actually recline down a mountain. There has been must controversy to whether the Château could withstand Hong Kong’s frequent landslides and monsoonal weather. The engineering ensures the Château's safety to the current Lord of the Château.
Taipan (Lord) of the Château
The Lord of the Château is always nominated by the current Head Administrator for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China (HKSAR). To date there has been 1 Lord of Château. The current Lord of the Grand Château White House is Sir David James Hogan AC knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his contribution to Foreign Relations. His current "Consort" for the Château is Madam Danelle Wilson MD.
Political Use
Originally the Château was built for a serenity retreat for Foreign Heads of State to visit and tour Hong Kong. It allegedly held President Kim Jong Il (North Korea) and President Fidel Castro (Cuba) for a secret communist meeting although this is probably untrue.
