Henry Graham White

Henry Graham White (26 August 1880 – 19 February 1965) was a British Liberal Party politician. He was educated at Birkenhead School and Liverpool University [ [http://www.jstor.org/pss/577687 The English Historical Review] ] .

Politics

White served as Member of Parliament for the constituency of Birkenhead East from 1922 to 1924 and from 1929 until his defeat at the 1945 general election. He was Assistant Postmaster General, 1931-32; and President of the Liberal Party, 1954-55 [ [http://www.portcullis.parliament.uk/DServe/dserve.exe?dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqSearch=RefNo='WHI'&dsqCmd=Show.tcl Parliament web site] ] .

Papers

A collection of White's papers were donated to Parliament by his grandson and have been deposited in the House of Lords Records Office. The papers comprise political papers and correspondence including constituency and election material, papers concerning Liberal Party organisation, draft bills, committee reports and memoranda on topics such as unemployment benefit and old age pensions. There are papers on White's interests outside Parliament, including the British Council and the [http://www.eleanorrathbonetrust.org.uk/ Eleanor Rathbone Trust] . There are also papers regarding White's campaign on behalf of German internees during the Second World War.
