|The Calgary Chieftains are an
Gaelic football club based in Calgary, Canada. They play at the Calgary Irish Rugby Field (CCIAC) and are members ofWestern Divisional Board of the Canadian County Board of theGaelic Athletic Association .In 1977,
Mike Quirke of Fylemore,Co. Kerry helped start the Calgary Chieftains.Paddy McCallion ,brother of Tyrone hurling star (Damien McCallion), who also plays for the Chieftains, of Tyrone descent, carried the torch into the nineties, having joined the Chieftains from their rivals in Edmonton.Noel Tuohy , from Dundalk, Louth, has been a stalwart player and spiritual leader for the club in the late nineties, but most recently, the efforts ofAdrian Lagan ,Kim Tulloch & Amanda Stewart have been crucial for the club. The Chieftains compete every year in the
Western Canadian Championships in both Men's & Ladies Gaelic football. The Men's team were the first winners of the Championship in 2004.
The Ladies Team (the "Chieftainettes") have been progressing in recent years, and can sense success in 2007.
The Chieftains Men play regularly against the
Calgary Kangaroos , a localAustralian rules football team. In 2003, the firstInternational Rules Series was played between the two teams with each team winning a game a-piece. The Aussies had the bigger margin of victory however, and so took the bragging rights.Calgary Tournaments - 2009

Calgary Tournament - Roll of Honour
Edmonton Ladies have dominated the Calgary Tournaments, however, there have been close tussles in the past. Calgary Ladies won the local Tournament in 2003. Vancouver has failed to send teams to the Calgary Tournament since 2000, but in 2006 they did make the trip and really enhanced the tournament.
Calgary Men have dominated on home soil, however the 2006 tournament will be remembered as the Tournament in which the Kangaroos made the breakthrough on behalf of Australian Rules teams in Western Canada.
2003 a notable year as both the Ladies and Men fielded 2 teams each. 8 different teams competed that year, and it was the first tournament that the Calgary Kangaroos attended (and they have been ever present since).
