Konaiyur (கோனையூர்) is a tiny village in Tamil Nadu located Tiruvannamalai District, Arni Taluck of our Incredible India. Most of the people here are agriculturists. Rice,Ground nut, Ragi, Sugarcane, Banana, Chili pepper are the major cultivation in this area. We could find the countable number of Mango Trees, Tamarind Trees, Neem Trees, Coconut Trees, Moringa oleifera Trees (Called as Drumstick) and many more trees. Few people are silk weavers, the famous ArniSilk is also weaved by this people. This village situated on the bank of beautiful river called the Cheyyar River, which is originating from Jawadhu hills near Chengam and mixing with Palar River near at Kanchipuram.

Total population in this village is around 2,000. It has only one school with approximately 60 children are studying at "Panchayat Union Elementary School, Konaiyur". Classes are conducted here from First Standard to Fifth Standard. Most of the time the school will operate with only one teacher for all the classes, he/she would be performing multiple work for the children. After the elementary school they have to leave for Periya Kolappalur (பெரிய கொழப்பலூர்) to continue their studies up to higher secondary.

Now considerably there is no big name for this place, but around 100 years before konaiyur is the model village for the surrounding villages. Its like the capital of the sorrunding 18 villages (பதினெட்டு பட்டி), giving judgment(Panchayat Raj) for the small issues & problems. Due to the lack of transport, educated people are vocating to the metro cities by putting this village down. Still people are traveling through their won vehicle(bicycle), only one Town bus from TNSTC is there for their commuting. Many people still walking at least 3 Km for main road to catch the local town bus to nearby town Arani, Tamil Nadu.

Due to lack of proper guidance and support, People are forced to lag in this small village. Looked upon as a model village in the past, had there been better development programmes and constant Government beneficiary schemes, the village could have been better. Hope the politicians are aware of it.

Youngsters are the future citizens of the nations. The youngsters here are able to compete with passion in the academic curriculum but their rhythm stops once they seek for a better living in a metro. Therefore, there is no continual improvement and guidance for the people here. We hope a better revival from the Government in providing better infrastructure to the schools here.

“Villages are the backbone of the country” and the economic progress and development of the country also lies on the development of these villages in and around Konaiyur. If we were to build "India Millennium Mission 2020" spear headed by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s Vision, we will need to streamline the plans, process and pace the activities of the growth in each and every village.

In the Year 2002 the village has got the full fledged telephone connection from the Tamilnadu government. Nowadays KONAIYUR is connected to the world arena with the mobile operators like Reliance Communications, Airtel, Aircel, BSNL, vodafone and now Tata Indicom as well. We are getting the communication signals ( GSM & CDMA ) from Arni, Chetpet, Polur, Vinnamangalam & Kolappalur mobile towers. Now, for the past 1 year we are getting good quality Television cable connectivity also from the nearby town Arni.

Regarding the religion here almost 95% are Hindus and remaining 4% Christians & less than 1% as Muslims. Regarding the caste here only 3 caste systems are there. Majority people are belongs to Vanniyar, about 15% people are Yadhavar and about 10% of people are belongs to Scheduled Caste. In AD 1900s much varied different caste people are lived here but on now they have relocated to the metro cities. Obviously all the temples here are Hindu temples... Many small temples are constructed and renovated in different centuries... The figure which has shown here is the Perumal Temple constructed in mid 17th century... People will celebrate Pongal, Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Koozvaarthal(கூழ்வார்த்தல்) as a major festival here... Pongal, in the month of January and Koozvaarthal in the month of April/May are celebrated in a grandiose manner. Tamilnadu’s famous Jallikattu(ஜல்லிகட்டு) is played during Pongal festival which adds real colour and flavor to the festival. Due to lack of enthusiasm and nonavailability of youngsters, passionate game of Jallikattu has been dropped in the recent times.

Our village president Mr.Pon Magesh, is doing well comparetively. He needs more inputs and encouragements from the crowd. He had improved the village with good cement roads & good quality Neon street lights. But the road which is connecting to VINNAMANGALAM is badly damaged. No political party or the Tamilnadu Government is looking after this road since last 13 years. Constant people intraction programs and monthly village meetings will help the village grow better.

Lets unite all the green villages to make the Incredible India. India will shine for ever and ever.
