Torre de Madrid

The Torre de Madrid is one of the tallest skyscrapers of Madrid (Spain), 142 meters high and 36 floors over ground. It was built in 1957, and is located in the Plaza de España (Spain square), being an emblematic building for the square and for the city itself. It houses offices and apartments.

It was designed by José Otamendi Machimbarrena, coauthor of the nearby Edificio España, for the company Metrovacesa.

At the time of its building it was the tallest of Europe, but ten years later it was surpassed by the Tour du Midi, in Brussels.

Since then it has been surpassed by other buildings in Madrid itself, so that in 2006 is the seventh tallest of the city.
