Paul Vernon Galloway was an American Bishop of The Methodist Church, elected in 1960.
He died
5 August 1990 at the St. John Medical Center,Tulsa, Oklahoma . He was 86 and living in Tulsa when he died of cancer. He was survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Boney of Tulsa, his son, Paul Galloway, Jr. of Chicago, and two sisters, both ofShreveport, Louisiana .Bishop Galloway was a graduate of the
Yale Divinity School . He wasordained to the Methodist ministry in 1931. Prior to his election to the Episcopacy, Rev. Galloway served as aPastor of nine different churches.As Bishop, Galloway served in Texas,
Arkansas andLouisiana . In 1964, he was awarded a Doctor of Laws (honorary) by Southern Methodist University. Heretired in 1972, but then was called to serve as Bishop of theHouston Episcopal Area for three years, and for one additional year in Louisiana.Galloway also served as Bishop-in-Residence of the Boston Avenue United Methodist Church in Tulsa. He had pastored that church for the ten years prior to his election to the Episcopacy.
Bishop Galloway also served on the boards of
Southern Methodist University and theUniversity of Arkansas . In the 1960s he was involved in integrating the dining rooms at the Arkansas State Capitol and those at the University of Arkansas.ee also
