LLD (born 1939 in Brandon,Manitoba ) is a veteranCanadian broadcastjournalist and currently acorrespondent for theCBC Newsworld based inWashington, DC .Champ was previously a correspondent for
NBC News for ten years before moving to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1993 to become ananchor for . Before moving to theUnited States , he worked at CTV for the previous fifteen years. He also contributed to "W-FIVE " between 1978 and 1982. Before W5, he was bureau chief for CTV in Washington, D.C.,Montreal andLondon . He was born inBrandon General Hospital . He started as asportswriter atBrandon Sun . Champ received an honorarydoctor of laws degree fromBrandon University in 2005 and was appointed Chancellor of this institution in 2008 for a three year term.Prior to joining W5, Champ held positions as CTV's Washington Bureau Chief, London Bureau Chief, Montreal Bureau Chief and network correspondent. During this time, he was among the last correspondents to leave Vietnam during the fall of Saigon and among the first Canadian journalists to be admitted into the People's Republic of China.
