Arborglyph

Arborglyphs are tree carvings made in the bark of Aspen trees by Basque and Irish shepherds throughout the Pacific Northwest United States. They have been documented in areas between northern California and Boise, Idaho.

A project run by the USDA Forest Service in 1997 to document many arborglyphs in the Fremont National Forest of Oregon is documented [http://www.passportintime.com/summaries/97/or97a_sheep.html here ]
