Tony Thompson (born October 18, 1971 in Washington, D.C.) is a professional boxer. Nicknamed "The Tiger", Thompson is a rising contender in the heavyweight division.

After his first four wins he lost against undefeated prospect Eric Kirkland on points over four rounds in 2000. In 2001 he KO'd the undefeated Chester Hughes in the first round.

Generally speaking his unspectular but highly effective way of fighting has given him considerable problems getting meaningful fights. He is about 245lbs but rather an average puncher.

In 2004 Tony handed undefeated Cuban amateur star Yanqui Diaz his first loss. He also beat former repeated title challenger Vaughn Bean.

On a 25 fight winning streak, the 6'5" Thompson is coming off of huge victories over fringe contenders Dominick Guinn in June 2006 and Timor Ibragimov in February 2007. In the Ibragimov fight, Thompson's boxing shoes were stolen at the Playboy Mansion, and had to borrow a pair of basketball shoes from a Fox Sports Network producer. Thompson also competed in Cedric Kushner's Thunderbox Heavyweight Tournament, "Fistful of Dollars", losing in the final match to Maurice Harris. Thompson had a dominating TKO win over Luan Krasniqi in a WBO title eliminator on July 14th, 2007. As of November 2007, he was ranked ninth in the heavyweight division by "Ring Magazine", and was the only American-born fighter in the top ten.

Thompson challenged WBO and the IBF Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in Germany on July 12, 2008, but lost by way of Knock out with 1:28 remaining of the 11th round, earning him his second career loss. He tired after the seventh round according to the ring interview without a plausible reason.
