Edwin Vinson Goddard (October 28, 1914 - July 20, 1992) was an American football player.

Ed Goddard - The Escondido Express

Ed Goddard was an extraordinary athlete of his time. College football made him an All American 3 times over, Professional Football and Baseball made him a legend in his own right.

Ed was known as the Escondido Express, the relatively small man had great potential (Ed was only about 5'10"). A town favorite, Ed was eventually recruited by USC. And while this University was closer to home, he saw greater things in store for him at Washington State. The name "Escondido Express" actually came after he started playing for Washington State. It was gifted by a Los Angeles Times reporter who saw him running and passing against USC, helping Washington State win against USC for the first time in 3 years.

Goddard was a quarterback, halfback, and one heck of a punter, officially taking the All American title as a quarterback. He was voted in by (arguably) the most honorable way, by fellow players.

After a few years in professional football, and some time in baseball, Goddard did his duty as an American by taking a tour in World War II, and then settling down with his wife, Ellen, and their two children.

Ed died in his home in July 1992, surrounded by his loved ones.
