Gammaridae is a family of amphipods. In North America they are commonly called scuds [ cite web | title = Scuds| publisher = West Fly| date = 2006| url = http://www.westfly.com/ento/others/scuds.htm| accessdate = 2006-08-07] .They have a wide distribution, centered on Eurasia, and inhabit both fresh and marine waters.

ystematics

The Gammaridae were for a long time used as a "wastebin taxon" for numerous other genera of Gammaridea. these have now been removed to groups such as the Anisogammaridae, Calliopiidae, Melitidae, Niphargidae, Pontoporeiidae or Talitridae.

The following genus list is incomplete and has not been verified against a current source. Particularly, it also includes taxa now placed in Pontogammaridae. Limits of several genera are subject of debate and some (such as "Gammarus") might not be monophyletic.
