The 1st Guard Infantry Division (German: 1. Garde-Infanterie-Division) was a unit of the Prussian (and later) Imperial German Army and was stationed in Berlin.
Lineage
The Division was created following reorganization on September 5 1818 of the brigades (previously grouped into Armie Korps) to assume designation as divisions. The foot regiments and batteries of the Prussian Guard were grouped into the Garde Division. [http://www.grosser-generalstab.de/index.html]

The division was a unit in the Guard Corps of the Imperial German Army. At the outbreak of the First World War it was commanded by Gen-Lt. von Hutier.
