27 September 1757 Malmö –3 February 1825 ) was a SwedishLutheran pietist ic clergyman. His theology influenced a revivalist movement known asSchartauanism that is widespread in south and southwest Sweden. In the US it was influential in WesternMaine .Schartau studied to priest at
Lund University . He becamevicar in the congregation of Stora Råby in southern Sweden. He became renowned for his harsh and strict sermons, which came to influence several young priests.Some well known Swedish bishops like
