owner=RiverPlace Condominiums is a residential tower that is proposed to be built on the
Baton Rouge riverfront and currently in the design phase, but is expected to reach groundbreaking in 2009. The project is headed up by real estate executive Richard Preis. Subject to recent skepticism over whether or not it will ever be completed, the project has been "under construction" (with an empty lot) since 2002, and numerous articles have for years suggested construction is "right around the corner".In July 2008 "The Advocate" reported that the project had once again been redesigned and is now set to be a 300-room hotel with multiple condominiums available on the top floor(s). Featuring more retail space than in earlier plans, the tower has apparently drawn interest from two national hotel chains and two high-profile
New Orleans restaurants. The name will likely change but still use the "RiverPlace" moniker in some way. Crews will drive test piles sometime beforeLabor Day 2008, and work should begin by January 2009, setting the opening for as early as summer 2010.References
