June 6 ,1895 –November 27 ,2006 ) was, at age 111, believed to be theUnited Kingdom 's oldest person following the death of fellow 111-year-oldEmmeline Brice onJuly 26 ,2006 Knight was born in
Glasgow and alreadyScotland 's oldest person since theDecember 7 ,2005 death ofLucy D'Abreu , who was, at age 113, also the oldest person in the UK at the time.She had been an active
suffragette and helped to organize meetings and attended demonstrations. Knight was also an active supporter ofScottish independence and of theScottish National Party (SNP). In 1962, she hosted the pirate stationRadio Free Scotland in her front room.Knight, who lived in three centuries, put her long life down to the Scottish staple of
porridge , no alcohol (she had been teetotal all her life) and the occasional sweet.She died in
Aberdeen and was survived by her son Bill, 86, two grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.ee also
