March 6 ,1950 Roger Perrinjaquet applied for apatent for an "appareil ménager portatif" (hand-held kitchen appliance). The application describes the world's first immersion or stick blender. He calls the new appliance "bamix", an abbreviation of the French "battre et mixer" (beat and mix). In 1954 Perrinjaquet sold the patent rights to ESGE, a small company that produced electrical motors. They began producing the first mixers towards the end of this year. OnApril 24 ,1955 the new Bamix immersion blender was presented to the public for the first time at theHanover Fair . Soon after the new appliance was named Zauberstab (magic wand) specifically for the German market.References
