Viborg HK (Viborg Håndbold Klub) is the name of a Danish
handball club fromViborg . The club has many teams for both women and men, but especially the professional woman's team is one of the most successful in Danish and European handball since the beginning of the 1990s. This team currently competes in the women'sDamehåndboldligaen , while the male team appear in the men's top flight, theDanish Handball League .History
The club was established in
1936 , but it was not until1989 the woman's team was promoted to the best league in Denmark. Manager of the team at that time was a youngUlrik Wilbek , who later became national manager for Denmark and was extremely successful here as well. Among the players at the time of the promotion wasAnja Andersen and goalkeeperSusanne Munk Lauritsen . Since the promotion, Viborg HK has had overwhelming success with 10 championships since1994 and only twice ended below third place in the league. In European tournaments, the team has reached the finals several times and won a few titles, the greatest of them being theEHF Champions League , which they won in 2006.The men's team has not been quite as successful. It was only in 1999 a promotion to the best league was reached. Since then, the best result has been a third place in
