David R. Stras is a professor of law at the
University of Minnesota Law School , teaching in the areas of criminal law, federal jurisdiction, constitutional law, and law and economics.Stras has contributed to research in such topics as judicial pensions and life tenure for judges. He is also a regular radio contributor on federal legal topics at
Minnesota Public Radio .Education
Stras received his undergraduate degree and Masters of Business from the
University of Kansas . He earned hisJ.D. from theUniversity of Kansas Law School where he also worked on the Kansas Law Review. He clerked on two federal courts of appeal, for JudgeMelvin Brunetti on theU.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and JudgeMichael Luttig on theU.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit .Following his clerking experience, he worked at the D.C. office of
Sidley Austin Brown & Wood for a year, after which he clerked for JusticeClarence Thomas of theUnited States Supreme Court .Legal works
