He has a younger brother, Adam Thomas, who is currently starring as Donte Charles in BBC One drama series, Waterloo Road. Ryan has hit the headlines for a number of reasons over the years. In 2005 he was snapped by The Sun driving without a license. Rumours that Jason Grimshaw would be axed from the show have so far appeared unfounded. However Ryan admitted he would find it tough without her. Ryan has been nominated for various awards away from his acting most of which are "Sexiest Male" gongs. He has been dating co-star Tina O'Brien (Sarah Grimshaw) since 2004. On 5 April 2008, Tina and Ryan announced that they are expecting their first child together.
