Virus Chaser is a software product developed by a Korean company named New Technology Wave by technical affiliation with Doctor Web. Virus Chaser has been designed as a complete anti-malware system for users across Asia (and more recently Australia as well), which is New Technology Wave's primary market. It uses the Doctor Web engine, although with a few modifications.

It is generally regarded as a cleaner, more simplified version of Dr.Web for the Asia Pacific market.

The first version of Virus Chaser was released in June 2002 with version number 5.0. This version was actually developed by the same team which develops the Dr.Web Anti-Virus software, and it was simply rebranded as Virus Chaser. Due to the version number of 5.0, it has been speculated that this version of Virus Chaser was actually an early version of the upcoming version of Dr.Web (5.0). Later on, more versions of Virus Chaser were released, such as Virus Chaser for Web in October 2002 and Virus Chaser for USB Drives in January 2005.

In November 2005, Virus Chaser was updated to version 5.0a, which provided compatibility with Windows Security Center in Windows XP Service Pack 2 and a brand new interface. It also simplified the configuration options for the software heavily.

"Product Features"

Virus Chaser uses the award-winning Dr.Web anti-virus scanning engine to provide the following computer protection features:

* Real-time as well as On-demand protection against all forms of malware - viruses, worms, rootkits, trojans, spyware, adware, riskware and other malicious software
* Incoming and outgoing email scanning (using POP3 and SMTP protocols)
* Extensive support for a wide variety of file types including all common compressed files
* Automatic and Manual update - Virus Chaser automatically updates every four hours
* Hourly updates provide faster protection against new malware. Each update is incremental in nature and is very small in size (about 40KB per update). Virus Chaser's updater is able to automatically update the signature database, program fixes and even major upgrades of the program using the normal update mechanism
* Scanning of running processes in memory
* Multilingual package - supports English, Korean, Chinese, Thai and Japanese in one installation package

Awards and Recognition

Virus Chaser is continually certified with the Virus Bulletin VB100 certificate, which is awarded for 100% detection of all In-The-Wild malware (malware that is spreading very fast and infecting millions of computers). The latest certificate was acquired in October 2006. In addition, the Dr.Web engine, on which Virus Chaser is based, has been certified by ICSA Labs. Virus Chaser is also certified by the Chinese authority.
