Doctor Web . Virus Chaser has been designed as a complete anti-malware system for users across Asia (and more recently Australia as well), which is New Technology Wave's primary market. It uses the Doctor Web engine, although with a few modifications. It is generally regarded as a cleaner, more simplified version of Dr.Web for the Asia Pacific market.
The first version of Virus Chaser was released in June 2002 with version number 5.0. This version was actually developed by the same team which develops the Dr.Web Anti-Virus software, and it was simply rebranded as Virus Chaser. Due to the version number of 5.0, it has been speculated that this version of Virus Chaser was actually an early version of the upcoming version of Dr.Web (5.0). Later on, more versions of Virus Chaser were released, such as Virus Chaser for Web in October 2002 and Virus Chaser for USB Drives in January 2005.
In November 2005, Virus Chaser was updated to version 5.0a, which provided compatibility with Windows Security Center in Windows XP Service Pack 2 and a brand new interface. It also simplified the configuration options for the software heavily.
