Costume designer Helen Rose (February 2 1904 -November 9 1985 ) spent the bulk of her career withMetro-Goldwyn-Mayer , where she clothed the stars of 200 films.A native of
Chicago , she began designing nightclub and stage costumes at age 15. She also costumed for an ice show before moving toHollywood in the early 40s where she spent two years working for20th Century Fox . Rose won two Academy Awards for Best Costume Design, for "The Bad and the Beautiful " in 1952 and for "I'll Cry Tomorrow " in 1955. She was nominated a further eight times. She was also very well known for designing the wedding dress ofGrace Kelly when she marriedPrince Rainier of Monaco in 1956.In the late 60s, Rose left the studio to open her own design business and continued to provide fancy attire for the famed and the wealthy. She also wrote a fashion column, wrote a book, and staged travelling fashion shows.
Helen was married to Harry Rose.
