Tyrone K. Yates is a Democratic member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 33rd District since 2003.

A Cincinnati native, Representative Yates is a 1972 graduate of Withrow High School. He is a 1978 graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a B.A. degree in History and holds the Juris Doctor degree from the University of Toledo College of Law. He has studied at both the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard and the Harvard Law School in executive programs. While an undergraduate and graduate student, Yates served on the University of Cincinnati Board of Trustees as a Student Representative and was elected to the Governing Board of the University of Toledo College of Law. Yates won the University of Cincinnati's Jones Prize for Oratorical Excellence in 1978. Yates was a member of Cincinnati City Council from 1990 to 1999 and served as Vice-Mayor of Cincinnati for two terms.

Representative Yates is a former Senior Warden of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, UC honorary Sigma Sigma, and is a Life member of the Navy League of the United States, the National Association For The Advancement Of Colored People (NAACP), and the American Angus (cattle) Association.

Yates was a Delegate to the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston, Massachusetts and a Barack Obama Delegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Yates is currently writing a book on the Kennedy Administration focusing on the admission of James Meredith to the University of Mississippi in 1962 "but the pace is very slow."

Yates serves on the Finance and Appropriations, Ways and Means, Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Criminal Justice Committees. He also serves on the Ohio Arts Council, the State Criminal Sentencing Commission, and the Correctional Institutions Inspections Committee. Yates is a former President of the 17 Member Ohio Legislative Black Caucus and former Chairman of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Foundation. Yates was the Chairman of the Local Host Committee for the very successful 2008 NAACP National Convention held in Cincinnati in July 2008.
