Since China did not requireJews to apply for a visa, he fled toShanghai .Since 1941 he served the
Chinese Communist force as a field doctor for theNew Fourth Army , theEighth Route Army and the NortheastPeople's Liberation Army during the outbreak ofSecond Sino-Japanese war andChinese civil war . He chose to remain in China after the fall of theNazi regime and participated in the People's Liberation Army's march onBeijing before returning to Europe to search for relatives in 1949, the year thePeople's Republic of China was founded.In 1950 he emigrated to
