Boris Giuliano

Boris Giuliano

Giorgio Boris Giuliano (Piazza Armerina (Enna), October 22, 1930 - Palermo, July 21, 1979) was a police chief from Palermo, Sicily. He was the head of Palermo's Flying Squad (Squadra mobile).

Giuliano was involved in the investigation in the killing of journalist Mauro De Mauro.it icon [http://www.repubblica.it/2005/f/sezioni/cronaca/demauromafia/demauromafia/demauromafia.html De Mauro ucciso per uno scoop scoprì il patto tra boss e golpisti] , La Repubblica, June 18, 2005]

During the late 1970s he was investigating drug trafficking by various members of the Sicilian Mafia, including the boss Stefano Bontade, as well as a series of armed robberies linked to Corso De Mille boss Fillipo Marchese. Not long before his death he attended the FBI headquarters at Quantico, Virginia at the invitation of the FBI.

Giuliano discovered cheques and other documents which indicated that banker Michele Sindona through the Vatican Bank had been recycling the proceeds from heroin sales by the Mafia to his Amincor Bank in Switzerland. He coordinated his investigations with the lawyer Giorgio Ambrosoli, appointed as liquidator of Sindona's banks. Ambrosoli was murdered on July 11, 1979 in Milan.

Ten days later, on July 21, 1979 he was shot and killed by the Corleonesi hitman Leoluca Bagarella while drinking a coffee in the Lux Bar waiting his driver to take him into the office early in the morning.
