Heterodiamond

Heterodiamond is a superhard material containing boron, carbon, and nitrogen (BCN). It is formed in high temperatures and high pressures, eg. by application of an explosive shock wave to a mixture of diamond and cubic boron nitride. A 2002 synthesis documented heterodiamond with Vickers hardness ranging from 41 to 68 gigapascals, compared to 70 to 100 for diamond. [patent|US|6759128]
